Thank you so much to Adventist Health Sonora for joining us for a Build Day! We are so thankful for our partnership because it enables us all to help more people in our community.
We invited a group from Adventist Health Sonora to join us for a Home Repair Program Build Day because we were connected with this couple through our partnership with Adventist Health. A social worker reached out to us because their home needed some repairs and they thought we would be able to help them. Through Habitat’s Home Repair Program, which is a zero-interest loan program to qualified homeowners, we have already been able to repair their roof which had long term damage and a serious leak.
On Friday, Adventist Health’s team helped to complete another aspect of our repair with them – removing their carpet. One of the homeowners uses an electric wheel chair which caused the carpet to roll in places and get stuck on his wheels, making navigating their home more difficult for him. He is also the caretaker for his wife and the carpet made it difficult to move her medical bed and equipment. Underneath the carpet was great wood flooring, we just needed to remove the carpet to get to it. With their help we removed the carpet, cleaned up around their home, organized furniture that the family was unable to move on their own, and create a more functional living space for them. It was a tremendous help to this family and left them with the joy of community coming together to help them.
Moving forward they are in the process of applying for funds through Project HOPE, a program through Adventist Health Sonora, in conjunction with Habitat’s Home Repair Program, in order to renovate their bathroom into a much more accessible space. We have loved working with this family and we are so glad to be partnered with Adventist Health Sonora to bring dignity and hope to this home.
