House #6 Ground Breaking Ceremony

By Dave Palmer

On Sunday May 18, 2008, Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Ponderosa Hills site where they will begin building the next house early this summer.  Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County is a non-profit organization that builds homes in partnership with Tuolumne County families in need.

David Bolles, President of the Habitat for Humanity board of directors, opened the ceremonies by welcoming Pastor Mark Levering from Sierra Bible Church of Sonora, Kathleen Brennan, and her children Andrew, Shelby, Thomas, and Justin, the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, and members of the Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committee.

Following Mr. Bolles opening remarks, Pastor Mark Levering led the attendees in prayer.  Pastor Mark spoke about how important it is for a family to have a place they can call home.

Kathleen Brennan and her children Andrew, 11 years old, Shelby, 7 years old, and Thomas, 3 years old, will be involved with building the new house and will eventually live in the house when it is completed.

Following the prayer, the Brennan family, the Habitat Board of Directors, and Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Betsy Harden performed the ceremonial groundbreaking.

Executive Director Betsy Harden closed the groundbreaking ceremony by describing the role of the Brennan family in the home building process.
