In November of 2007 Roger Haughton,
former CEO of PMI, and his wife Judy made a
very generous donation to Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County (HFHTC). In the
words of Mr. Haughton, "We would like to contribute $100,000 to the Tuolumne County
affiliate to support their efforts to provide home ownership opportunities in our community.
We take pride in having helped build a Habitat house with other PMI employees a few years ago
and since we have retirement residences in Twain Harte and Confidence, we want to continue our
support of Tuolumne County Habitat.
As Roger alluded to, this donation was a renewal of our relationship with the Haughton’s. Back in 2002, Roger and Judy brought fifteen PMI Group, Inc. employees from San Francisco to Ponderosa Hills for a “blitz build” of Debbie Kay’s home which PMI sponsored in the amount of $50,000.
In 2008, The Haughton’s attended the HFHTC donor recognition party that was held at the Mt. Brow Winery. At that time, Roger informed Ted Michaud, President of HFHTC, that the Haughton’s would like to sponsor a fundraising event at the home they were constructing at the time in Confidence. This is that party! HFHTC is extremely grateful to the Haughton’s for sponsoring this fundraising event and for opening up their beautiful home, the Immanuel Lodge, to our supporters.
Roger and Judy Haughton have been deeply involved in the work of Habitat for Humanity for many years –monetarily and physically. For many of their wedding anniversaries, Roger and Judy have chosen to sponsor and work on homes that were being built in conjunction with Habitat International’s Jimmy Carter Work Projects all over the world. Each of the Haughton children has also participated in financially and physically building Habitat homes. The entire family is devoted to the idea that every person deserves a decent, affordable home in which to raise their family. And they are not only willing to sponsor these homes financially; they all get out there and swing a hammer to get it done.
